    Key Opinion Leader Profiling

    Focused Expertise

KOL Profiling is used to select highly qualified healthcare experts to support the clinical and commercial development of a new or existing product/indication.  The goal is to prioritize these KOLs for future engagement in activities such as advisory board meetings, publications, speaker programs, clinical research, and regulatory meetings.

KOL Profiling begins with a KOL development plan, which specifies the client activities that will benefit from KOL participation and the KOL qualifications required to support each specific activity. Then, IFI customizes its algorithm, which weights each of those qualifications. Multiple sources are used to identify KOLs who are included in a list of KOL nominees. IFI evaluates background information about each KOL nominee, and uses the algorithm to prioritize these nominees.  In collaboration with our client, a final prioritized list of KOLs is generated for each of the planned activities.

The four key steps of the KOL Profiling process can be summarized as follows.

Here is an example of an assignment in which our client sought to obtain highly qualified nominations for a series of global and regional advisory board meetings.

At the conclusion of the project, IFI delivered a prioritized list of therapeutic area experts who were highly qualified in each of the targeted areas of expertise: clinical practice, clinical research, health economics and outcomes research, mechanism of action, and risk management. A global steering committee was developed with representation from each area of expertise.

    Critical Success Factors

Successful KOL Profiling begins with identification of essential KOL programs and selection criteria to match the needs of those programs.
